And the crap goes on

"The Attempted Assassination of Salman Rushdie" and "Killing Time". Two plays written 'especially' for the Metropus (nope, not a typo) fest. One 'based on' Beckett, the other on Sartre. Mediocre acting, worse direction, indescribably inane scripts. The only one who came off with a hint of dignity was Iswar Srikumar, and one suspects that this was due to his natural energy rather than any particular effort by the director. Aarti Aney may have hope in the future if she stays away from Grossly Commercial. I hope Timeri Murari and Deesh Mariwala are getting drunk somewhere tonight, because if I were either of them, I would not want to remember the utter humiliation of this evening.

On a slightly happier note, Karthik Srinivasan stole the show yesterday as David in Ron Whyte's "Welcome to Andromeda". Great show of energy by a man who played a paraplegic immobilized from the neck down. Gayathri Sriram was woefully inadequate. I'm sure I'm not the only one missing Hans Kaushik and Magic Lantern, who seem to be the only ones capable of bringing a touch of class to the local theatre in this grossly commercial city.

Dude, WHOEVER you are.cudnt agree more with u.....The attempted assasination was total crap....but felt Balakrishnan did a decent job in Killing time......And of course, Karthik Srinivasan in Andromeda was amazing.....Superb performance......Those who know him by the comedy roles he usually plays at Evam are in for an intense and emotional treat. The actor's got what it takes for serious theatre. But has Chennai theatre got plays good and serious enough for artists like him ??

Any junk can go by the name of theatre in this city. What else can we expect in a place where the Vagina Monologues was banned?

Vagina Monologues was banned? Ohhh! I didn't know that!

There was one bright light in the "Metropus" TheatreFest - Ristorante Immortale from the Berlin based theater group - Familie Floz.
